A Royal Cayman Islands Police vehicle was apparently fired upon in the early hours of Saturday morning in central George Town, the Caymanian Compass has learned.

The shooting occurred around 3.15am on Shedden Road. According to information obtained by the Compass, a bullet was fired through the back windshield of a police vehicle.

An RCIPS press release stated that the police car was travelling through town as part of a convoy of law enforcement vehicles when a number of gunshots were fired.

A special constable inside the police vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated and released at George Town hospital early Saturday.

No arrests were immediately reported in the incident.

Police had a wide area cordoned off around Shedden Road Saturday morning. Armed officers were maintaining order in the area where more than a hundred on–lookers had gathered.
