The Cayman Islands national girls Under–17s football team returned from their World Cup qualifier in Haiti in buoyant mood on Saturday night.
There to greet them at the Owen Roberts International Airport was a crowd of family and friends to shower congratulations for a successful tournament.
Cayman beat the Bahamas 2–1, whacked British Virgin Islands 13–0 but lost narrowly to group winners Haiti 1–0.
Cayman now face the Dominican Republic in a playoff to decide who joins Haiti in the next round of World Cup games next month.
The Dominican Republic may have a population of 10 million and a much bigger pool to draw from but judging by the way they outplayed Haiti for much of the much, Cayman will not be overawed in the two games.
