Racing to the bar

The popular Wednesday Night Running Club is holding a social evening tonight after its regular run.

For a year now runners of all abilities have been meeting every Wednesday night outside the World Gym at 6pm to run between two and five miles, depending on their ability and desire.

Organiser Tony Watts said: “The plan is to meet up at Public Beach and go for a run northwards towards West Bay, probably just an out and back run of varying distances to suit all. As we finish at Public Beach we’re perfectly positioned for a drink at Calico Jack’s, sweaty but fulfilled!”

Watts will be at the usual gym start point until just before 6pm and will drive anyone who turns up there and needs a lift to Public Beach. That means it might be 5 or 10 minutes past before they start the run.

Watts added: “It’s getting dark earlier and earlier so flashing lights and bright colours are always good. I will try and bring spare lights but don’t have many. You can buy small red flashing lights from Uncle Bill’s, they are really for bicycles but can be clipped to the top of shorts and work quite well.”
