Colourfully costumed kiddies will entertain

George Town Primary students will be prominently featured in the pre–Landing entertainment on Saturday, 8 November, during the Pirates Week National Festival this year.

Approximately 50 youngsters, in colourful original costumes, will perform three dances on an open–air stage on Harbour Drive between 2pm and 3pm, as part of the entertainment preceding the mock “pirate landing” in the harbour.

Organised by George Town Primary dance teacher Soraya, the youngsters, in conjunction with some adult dancers, will present three separate pieces – Egypt Gold; Gypsies; Bollywood Love – specially choreographed by Soraya.

School Principal Ms Marie Martin, said: “The youngsters have been rehearsing hard, the costumes look great, and they are really excited about this. The people at the Landing will love them.”

The George Town Primary contribution is part of an expanded programme of entertainment preceding the Landing, and is being funded by the Ministry of Culture in the interest of encouraging performing talent in Cayman.

The one–hour slot will also feature two local singers (Jamesette Anglin; Rico Orrett) the Tassa Drummers, and a masquerade presentation. It will be followed by a waterboard exhibition, produced by Red Bull, before the Landing proper.

Pirates Week Executive Director Dave Martins said: “This contribution from the Ministry of Culture is fundamental to raising the professional level of the entertainment we provide before the Landing. Local talent often suffers from a lack of venues to display their ability, so it’s good that we can offer this showcase. ”
