BT students visit museum

Monday 26th November, 2007   Posted: 15:06 CIT   (20:06 GMT)

Heritage/Pirates Week cultural awareness was coupled with a visit to the Regenerating the National Museum exhibition, resulting in a special social studies field trip for Bodden Town Primary students.

Two classes of Year 3 pupils, led by teachers Carol Nyack and Dionne Clarke, attended the George Town Pirates Week fair. They then visited the Cayman Islands National Museum to see the artefacts, photographs and documents that tell the story of the museum’s restoration and future, said a GIS press release. The students’ trip was on 14 November.

At the Museum Support Facility on Pines Drive, the children also viewed the museum’s conservation, archaeology and restoration efforts.

This is the museum’s first general exhibition since it was damaged by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. The show opened in early November, and may be viewed Mondays to Fridays from 10am to 4pm through the end of the year.

It is expected that the waterfront museum building will be reopened in early 2008, with many new and interesting features, including some that were uncovered during the renovation process.
