All individuals planning to serve food or manage food stalls during the 2007 Pirates Week festivities must have up–to–date food handlers’ certifications from the Department of Environmental Health.

A basic course, exclusively for Pirates Week participants, is scheduled for Tuesday, 30 October, from 9am to 4pm. at the Executive Training Centre at the University College of the Cayman Islands. The centre is located in the university’s library.

All food handlers needing certification before the festivities should register; the cost of $15 per person covers materials.

At the end of the course, food handlers will have the knowledge to prevent food–borne illness and the spread of disease. Certification is for three years, and persons who want to continue as food handlers must renew the certification once it expires.

For more information and to register, call the DEH at 949–6696 or 244–4155, or e–mail Tania Johnson at Tania.johnson@gov.ky .
