World Run Day this Sunday

World Run Day will be celebrated on Sunday, 5 November.The event was founded by New Yorker Bill McDermott in 1999 in memory of his brother.The concept of a day for running has spread and runs are now conducted on this date worldwide, with contributions to a different charity each year.

In addition to the Cayman Islands, where an activity has been conducted ever since a visit here by Bill McDermott shortly after he conceived the idea,there will be runs in more than 25 locations in the United States, as well as Jamaica,Trinidad, and Belize.Other action will be taking place in Canada, England, Scotland,Malta, Italy,Slovakia, Azerbijan,Cameroon,Nigeria, Sierra Leone,Australia, the Philippines,China, and Japan.

Cayman Islands participation will take the form of a 5k run/walk from Harbour Place on South Church Street.Start time is 5 p.m., with registration beginning an hour earlier.Entry fee is $15, with event shirts, performance awards, random prizes, and refreshments included.

The theme for this year is TO END CHILD HUNGER.A portion of the entry fees will be sent to Run Day Headquarters in New York as a contribution to this cause.
