Caymanians in the spotlight

Thursday 28th September, 2006   Posted: 16:14 CIT   (21:14 GMT)

Caymanians Kamala Murugesu and Wendy Adam will get their turn in the spotlight this coming weekend when the US nationally–syndicated TV show Awesome Adventures airs on Cayman 27 this Saturday, 30 September at 1pm.

The show’s production took place in the Cayman Islands from 12 to 15 May, filming segments on both Grand Cayman and Little Cayman.

“The Cayman Islands’ episode will feature Awesome Adventures host Mystro Clark with co–hosts Murugesu and Adam exploring fun and educational activities in the Cayman Islands,” says a press release from the Department of Tourism. “The two teenagers were selected by producers from a list of dozens of hopeful applicants.”

The three days of filming included various stops in Grand Cayman and Little Cayman that highlight the destination’s culture and soft adventure aspects. Activities on the production team’s itinerary included Boatswain’s Beach, Stingray City, Black Pearl Skate and Surf Park, the Blue Iguana Conservatory at Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park, a fishing excursion and kayaking trip out to Owen Island with Southern Cross Club, and a close look at this year’s Batabano festivities.

The visiting media’s trip and production was made possible by the efforts of the Department of Tourism and members of the private sector, including Cayman Airways, Westin Casuarina Resort & Spa and The Southern Cross Club. Local company, Blair Marketing & Productions, was hired by Awesome Adventures’ producers to film all of the segments.

"We found the people to be very pleasant, helpful and welcoming. Those that guided us through our many activities were extremely knowledgeable . . . Kamala and Wendy were bright, energetic and very professional,” said Merv Jones, producer of Awesome Adventures. “From what we shot in Cayman, we have the makings of a very entertaining show.”
