Butterfield awards scholarship

The 2006 Butterfield Bank Undergraduate Scholarship has been awarded to Marzeta Bodden.

The award will entitle her to financial assistance of up to US$40,000 per year over a two year period to achieve her Bachelors Degree.

Marzeta, daughter of Martin and Eziethamae Bodden of West Bay, graduated with honours from John Gray High School in 2002. Having since completed her Associates degree in Accounting at the University College of the Cayman Islands, Marzeta is well on her way to getting her undergraduate degree.

During her studies she has also made time for the community with her work as a co–founder of Cayman Loves Children. She is also involved with the Commonwealth Youth Club and the Commonwealth Youth Parliament. Marzeta will begin the fall semester at Florida International University in Miami to pursue a double major in marketing and finance.

“As usual, the level of applications received this year resulted in a high number of qualified and deserving applicants to be considered, which made the selection that much more difficult,” Butterfield Bank’s Human Resources Manager and Scholarship Committee member, Kim Watler, commented in a press release.

“Overall the committee felt that this year’s recipient exemplified the scholarship’s criteria of academic diligence, outstanding community involvement, service and civic awareness, the strongest of all applicants.

“We are confident that she will demonstrate high standards as an ambassador for the Butterfield Undergraduate Scholarship Programme and wish her every success in obtaining her academic goals.”

The Butterfield Undergraduate Scholarship is granted annually and awarded on the basis of merit. It is available for any course of academic study beneficial to the Islands as a whole.

Last year’s Butterfield Bank Undergraduate Scholarship recipients, Natasha Kozaily and Lauren Ebanks, are well under way in their courses of study.
