NEW DELHI (AP) – India’s outsourcing revenue rose 32 percent to US$6.6 billion in the April–June quarter, a trade body said Saturday, suggesting the South Asian country remains a preferred destination for Western companies to shift back–office work.
Exports of software and information technology–related services totalled US$6.57 billion in the fiscal’s first quarter, up 32. 3 percent from a year ago, said the Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council.
The council said it expects the momentum to be sustained through the remaining quarters and that full–year exports would be around US$31 billion; or 33 percent more than last year.
India’s fiscal year runs from April through March.
Scores of cost–slashing Western companies routinely transfer software development and back–office work to India, where wages are low and skilled workers are plenty.
