Narnia comes to Cayman

The Christian Service Commission at St. Ignatius Catholic Church premiered CS. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Wednesday night at the Marquee Cinemas 1 & 2.

Only hours earlier in London, England, the Royal performance world premiere had taken place at the Royal Albert Hall. 

The Cayman premiere is the first major fund raiser of the St. Vincent de Paul Society (local chapter).

Funds raised remain in the Cayman Islands for children in poverty. 

The Christian Service Commission expressed gratitude and awe at the tremendous acceptance of the spiritual value of this film, and contribution made by the people of the Cayman Islands, particularly the many local corporate sponsors who made the evening possible, states a press release.

In association with the Marquee Cinema, the Commission has been able to hold over the film for a special schools project and children’s matinee Saturday, 10 December.

 Mr. Oneil Miller, religious education director at St. Ignatius Catholic Church has been the driving force to all schools.

All schools, including the Sister Islands schools, were invited and all seats are sold out.

Sponsored include NCB Development, Fosters’ Food Fair, Cable & Wireless, Strathvale House and Party Mart.

Notes have been sent home from school with special instructions for arrival and departure from the cinema. Parents and teachers will be in place to supervise the children, and security is in place.  Pick up and drop off must be punctual.

The screening will commence on time. Children should arrive half an hour in advance and parents are asked to be punctual, as doors will be closed once the screening begins. 

Dress is smart.  Parents will be able to take pictures of the kids outside the Wardrobe, however no cameras will be allowed inside the cinemas. Cell phones will be requested to be turned off during the screening.

 Marquee Cinema will show the movie again Friday night.  Those tickets will be purchased at the Cinema box office at regular cinema prices.
