No Booz Cruz draws crowd

Tuesday 26th April, 2005   Posted: 08:42 CIT   (13:42 GMT)

More than 250 teens climbed aboard the Mermaid last month for the National Drug Council’s No Booz Cruz.

“The turn–out was excellent,” commented Phillippa Byles, NDC Project Officer.

“It was an exciting event for the Easter holiday.”

The Mermaid sailed from the Yacht Club at 8pm and returned 11pm. Entertainment was provided by DJ Atom Force, and refreshments donated by Cayman Distributors, Maedac Supply, Savannah Springs and Island TV. The Commonwealth Youth Club also assisted with chaperoning and other duties, says a press release from the NDC. Event sponsors included Walkers, Paramount Carpet and Foster’s Food Fair.

“NDC is always looking forward to offering healthy activities to our youth; and the positive responses received for this event is definitely motivating,” said Mrs. Catherine Chesnut, NDC CEO/Co–ordinator.

Samantha McLaughlin, was among the teens ranging from ages 13 to 17 on the cruise.

“It was great. I can’t wait for the next NDC event,” she said.

Another No Booz Cruz is planned for the end of July.
